Attention: Current P2 Parents
At Primary 3 and 4, understanding and application of math concepts learnt in Primary 1 and 2 is the natural progression in the focus of the math curriculum.
Many children were able to breeze through Primary 1 and 2 scoring 80-90%, even FULL MARKS, which led parents to think that they were coping well, only to get a shock when they experienced a HUGE DROP in their math results in Primary 3 and 4. This was a case where a weak foundation in problem solving went undetected.
A weak foundation in understanding of concepts, coupled with a lack of systematic process thinking skills and problem solving strategies, children will start to lose confidence in their ability to problem solve and this will manifest in the HUGE DROP in their Math results in Primary 3 and 4 and more importantly they will start to lose interest Math as they progress on without help.
